Country Road, Lumsden, Saskatchewan

The Duck Derby Fundraiser had humble beginnings in 1988, initiated as a creative and enjoyable way to raise funds for a new skating rink in our town. Since then, it has evolved into one of Saskatchewan’s most successful fundraisers, thanks to the unwavering support of numerous sponsors, dedicated volunteers, and enthusiastic vendors. This cherished tradition takes place annually during the Labour Day long weekend.Months leading up to this exciting event, the Derby committee and volunteers tirelessly promote ticket sales through various avenues. You can purchase tickets at selected Regina and Lumsden businesses, online, or directly from our dedicated volunteers. The anticipation builds during the ‘Jail & Bail’ event held the Friday before the long weekend, where local residents playfully find themselves in ‘jail cells’ until they’ve successfully sold their tickets. Each ticket purchased is a chance to win an incredible prize. The prizes are announced consecutively over time, building up to the event’s long weekend, on their social media accounts. On the day of the race, thousands of rubber ducks are dropped into the Qu’Appelle River, racing to the finish line. The owners of the ducks that make their way to the finish line first will win the prizes, while people wait eagerly. But the fun doesn’t stop there! Throughout the day, there are many activities to engage in and enjoy, including a lively parade, a bustling trade show, entertaining kids’ activities, and captivating live music. A diverse selection of delectable food and drinks is also available. In our town, the word “Duck” carries a special meaning, symbolizing unity and the enduring spirit of our community.
